Travel with our family

Join us as we explore the world in our carbon-neutral, 4x4 expedition vehicle called The EcoRoamer. We are happy to share our travel adventures, family memories and homeschooling experiences as we journey down the road less traveled.

Long Overdue… again!

Nothing like a bit of peer pressure to kick a chronic procrastinator into action! SORRY GUYS! I have been very delinquent in my ExPo duties over the past few months. I know that there are a lot of you out there that have invested a lot of time into following our build, and want to […]

Building The Ecoroamer

At the center of our adventure is the incredible EcoRoamer. We call it: “The world’s first carbon-neutral, 4wd, family friendly, expedition vehicle”. We spent two-and-a-half years building it in 2007/2008, with the amazing help of Jeff Kuhl and his family in Sturgis, Michigan. Jay designed the truck from the ground up to run on solar […]

Approaching the ‘finish’ line

We made a lot of great progress over the past week. While most of Elkhart county are working “4-10’s” these days, Jeff & the guys have been working almost “7-12’s” for the past 3+ weeks. The good news is that the end is almost in sight… We got the entire camper insulated now. Most of […]

It WORKS!!

The Pop-top is done and it’s AWESOME!!! It adds a whole other ‘ROOM’ to the truck. I’m so happy with how it has turned out. It took a LOT of bizarre engineering and aluminum, but it all works… I’ve posted up lots of new pictures of the shutter door in it’s various positions in the […]

Solar!

Here’s the other 7 solar panels on the main roof: 1.5kW overall. (theoretical) They are going to get some rub rails to keep branches from ripping them off or damaging them. Time will tell how well that works…

Moving Inside

This week marks a fairly epic milestone in the development of the truck. We’ve started installing the interior! The major work over the past two weeks has been the pop-top and the electrical. (both of those now link to the newly organized photo galleries) The pop-top was a bit of a scary affair. Any day that you wake […]
